Biography —
Misty L. Heggeness is an associate professor of economics and public affairs, an associate research scientist in the KU Institute for Policy and Social Research, and co-director of the Kansas Population Center. She spent more than 12 years as a career staffer in the federal government conducting cutting-edge research on statistical innovation, gender, poverty, inequality, and the high-skilled workforce. In her leadership roles in the federal government, she oversaw the annual production of the Biomedical Research and Development Price Index and the development of the Census Frames project. She has authored over a dozen peer-reviewed journal articles and 10 technical briefs. Dr. Heggeness has a forthcoming (2025) book titled, SWIFTYNOMICS: Women in Today's Economy, and is a known expert on gender and the care economy.
